Recommendations for a weeklong family bike trip in the U.S.

The Katy Trail is great, especially if you like stopping by wineries along the way but it's highly recommended to avoid summer in Missouri as it's very hot and swampy.

Using wax instead of lube for a cargo bike.

This might be why I see less 'flakeyness' on my waxing as I pull it out around 80C and hang the chain up to dry/cool where it doesn't drip much, but it's not overly coated with wax. There's no downside to a waxed chain that I've found, even if I'm doing it wrong. :D You seem to go hard so I look...

Using wax instead of lube for a cargo bike.

Which wax did you go with as it looks very flaky, or at least more flaky then the wax I use (Rex). You expect some sloughing off at first, but that looks like a bit more than usual.

To wax or not to wax?

I'm quite sure he'll respond if you do as he is really gung-ho about the chain waxing. :)

Looks like Tern is about to announce something.

I was ready to buy a GSD S00 so, something along those lines with a belt drive and, if I'm being terribly greedy, I'd love a fun color like orange or yellow or purple. I would absolutely LOVE purple. And also maybe having it be available before the end of the summer. :)

Looks like Tern is about to announce something.

This just arrived in my inbox. I hope it's announced soon as I can't handle the suspense! :)

To wax or not to wax?

You should ping my LBS owner (FillariFillari in Helsinki) who is on the Orox group in FB and who often sings the praises of chain wax on his Orox. In fact, every new Tern with a chain out of the shop is now waxed. I remember a few years ago when a friend of mine sold me on the idea and he asked...

Anyone else have spring 'new bike fever'?

I agree as it feels like the end times these days and the one thing that truly makes me happy is riding my bike(s) :) Unfortunately, it seems I need to wait until the end of March to order one as my LBS doesn't have one in stock and there aren't any available through their distributor at the moment.

Using wax instead of lube for a cargo bike.

I'm the pied piper of chain waxing among my circle of cycling friends. I started doing it ~2 years ago and I love it as the chain remains clean and massively reduces the wear on the drivetrain. Sure, there are more exciting things to do on occasional Friday nights than wax your chain, but it's...

Anyone else have spring 'new bike fever'?

It's getting warmer in Nordichinterlandia and I find myself idly scrolling through the GSD S00 and R14 tech specs, reviews, etc. even though I'm happy with my Quick Haul. There should be a word for this, especially in German. That said, does anyone with either model of the aforementioned Gen 2...

The "Motherload" movie streaming on Tubi

I left the US in 2017 and didn't see this documentary until a few days ago ( I was very jealous of friends in Boston who attended screenings in Cambridge in 2019 ). It's so real and relatable that, if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend watching it either on Tubi (for free with ads) or...

    Replacement for Tern GSD saddle

Well, the worth of something is certainly an individual choice, but in 1990, I whinged about the padded seat on my new touring bike which made my undercarriage incredibly sore. Sheldon Brown suggested I try the B17s (the 'lady' version then) which was even then ~$100 and a bit spendy for the...

    Replacement for Tern GSD saddle

I second the Brooks recommendation. My touring bike, which I've ridden for 30 years, has a Brooks that is as comfortable as an old shoe where the older it gets, the better it becomes. I bought a new Brooks for my QH and it will probably live longer than I will. It's an acquired taste, I know...

    GSD tail light out

I've replaced both front and rear headlights on my QH and my husband's NBD which were rather easy to do, so I would first suggest checking the connection to the rear light as the front light works and the console isn't showing an error. It could just be a loose wire/connection. If you have the...

    Top winter gear

I ride in Helsinki where it can get pretty damn cold and the only thing I really care about are warm hands, feet, and ears. I lean heavily on wool socks, wool glove liners under wool/thinsulate mittens, and a Buff merino neck gaiter. I also have a thin merino cap to wear under my helmet...
