Hi, I'm Brendan from the Cargo Bike Crew! We live in the suburbs of Melbourne and ride bikes every day I did lots of MTB, road riding and commuting before having a kid, so I thought the best way to get him into bikes was getting a cargo bike.
I run an Instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/cargobikecrew) and Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@cargobikecrew) - sharing our own adventures with cargo bikes and now starting to do some long-form reviews. Love to show others what is possible and how to do it.
When the little one was 6 months old, we started with a basic electric trike from Trike-Bike, an Australian brand. Did a stack of upgrades and custom parts, loved doing local playground rides, daycare drop-off and grocery runs. I never liked riding it more than 5km at a time, a bit slow and bumpy, so it was time for an upgrade.
We bought an Urban Arrow Family in the middle of 2023 and started doing much longer rides. We've done nearly 8500kms now - it's been so reliable, just brake pads and tyre changes due to wear. Lots of upgrades and accessories too. I commute about 12km each way 3-4 days a week. Road bike on other days. Weekend rides can go long and we always do a big grocery shop. The picture is us heading out early for the annual Around the Bay ride in Melbourne. We did the 50km route that day (plus 30km to get to the start and 30km to get home).
My partner was struggling to keep up with us on her regular bike and wanted to do more local riding herself. So we got a Tern HSD P9 Performance to compliment the UA. She's far more comfortable riding the HSD, gets around the local area easily and we can do family rides together on the weekend.
