We originally had a Hiplock D1000 for our Urban Arrow but found it pretty difficult to lock as it was undersized. Now that we have the larger DX1000 it works much better. If you are in market for a Hiplock def spend the money on the larger size.

Great feedback! I haven’t felt like I needed the extreme safety of the DX1000 and found the Litelock X1 easy enough to use on the urban arrow.

What motivated you to go dx1000?

Mostly just to make sure it it's never the lowest hanging fruit, no matter where we park. We store ours in a shared underground parking lot of our building and the cutting disc resistance would hopefully make someone give up. We have the D1000 for our HSD and I'm usually more worried about it. The UA is just a weirder bike to steal.

I agree with you, the D1000 is great but ran into the same issue you had with having bigger cargo bike. That’s was made us get the DX. Unfortunately around me, good bike racks/parking are limited so we also got the X chain from Hiplok so I can get a little extra security and lock our bikes to each other for extra peace of mind.

For my commuter bike, I have the Litelok X1 and it’s perfect for that.

We got the DX1000 from REI during one of their annual member sales where you get 20% off any one full price item. I was also able to use credit card reward points on an REI gift card, which sweetened the deal.

I'm a little disappointed in the flimsy key it came with, and the lock mechanism is a little fiddly - I have to hold the shackle to the D pretty hard to get it to latch. The lock sure provides a lot of security and peace of mind, however.

A fellow e-bike rider had his bike locked up to a rack in a secure underground parkade in full view of security staff. Video showed his heavy u-lock was cut through witha cordless grinder and cutting wheel in about 15 seconds.
His bike had to be unlocked by his phone app to be powered up - so as an e-bike, it’s useless to a thief, but it’s gone regardless.
Security failed to act out of either fear or indifference.
So, his life partner arranged for a group buy on Hiplock DX1000’s. There were 15 locks purchased, two of them are ours.

One of the next things I’m putting on is a snikbike locator. https://snik.bike/
