I think I've cooked my cassette on my s12 Orox.

Ever since changing the chain that was far too worn, the gears are noisy under load and it's skipping in 11th and 12th gear. I indexed and reindexed the gears and adjusted the B-screw but no change. Weirdly the gears are louder when going up gears than when going down gears 🤷 this initially made me think it's the cable sticking but after watching the derailleur working it looks like the chain is climbing the teeth.

So my question is, can you think of anything else? But mainly what's the difference between XT cassettes and deore cassettes. Is it just weight or is there a more important difference?

The cassette is certainly worn. Do you see how the spaces are more oval than round? The up vs down is probably do to the shifting ramps also being worn.

For what you do, I would go deore. You don’t need the weight savings or that extra precise shifting.

If you ever have extra chain left over, keep it and use it as a cassette gauge to see how worn the teeth are. Let me know if that doesn’t make sense and I’ll take some photos

Ahh yeah good idea, I was just looking at my chain whip thinking how badly it was fitting. I have loads of bits of new chain so shouldn't be an issue.

As an update I needed a new chain ring too 😔 it's a 104BCD 32tooth Narrow Wide. Luckily my local shop had on on the shelf for £19.99.

All fixed now and she's running perfectly.
