I want to share a story and a bit of a warning for other people who have the Bosch Nyon display and live in a place that experiences below freezing winter temperatures. Last year, my first winter with the new display, I rode to the grocery store in temperatures that were around -5 Celcius. I left my display on the bike as where I live is quite safe, so I don't worry about theft. I was inside for about 10-15 minutes and came out to find that the battery on my display had fully drained and would not boot up my bike. No matter how many times I tried, even taking it off and putting it back on would not fix it. I manually pushed the buttons on the Bosch batteries to turn them on, but it didn't matter. The bike was not controllable and I had no pedal assist.

I tried riding the bike dead as I was around 9km from home, but it was absolutely exhausting, especially with my grocery load. I had to walk the bike almost 30 minutes in the freezing cold before reaching a local bike shop that did not work on Bosch, but were friendly and helpful. I removed the display, took it inside, and thankfully they had a charging cable that fit the Nyon. We plugged it in for a while and then I took it out and was able to boot it on the bike, where the Bosch batteries then took over charging the Nyon.

TLDR: In freezing temperatures, do not leave your Bosch controller sitting out turned off for too long. It may just leave you stranded.

*I have started carrying a charging cable in my Tern RidePocket with me at all times. In a worst case scenario, I could connect my phone to the Nyon via this cable and reverse charge it, hopefully enough to get it booted.
