Checking Out Surly's Skid Loader

Saw one in the bike shop today when I stopped by for the periodic firmware/maintenance checks.

when I mentioned it looking really sharp, and that I was glad to see it, the lady who sold me my Benno Boost said I already had a better bike. But I honestly don't know why.

that Skid Loader looks Amazing in person and I *kinda want to take it for a test ride*

It's a cool bike. I love steel bikes and my wife and I both ride Surlys. Their take is unique and worth a look imo, especially if you want to customize your bike with nice parts for a different feel or a really unique look, without having to compromise the quality of your ebike system. I was really stoked to see they went with Bosch.
It's also different to many mid and long tail competitors in that it comes with distinct S/M/L sizing, each offering a 12" fit range, with highly customizable stack and reach. Surly did a great job making a couple of cargobikes that remain true to the look and feel of their traditional bikes. I found them super fun to test ride. They feel really light to me, maybe it is just the look of thinner round tubing compared with boxier aluminum designs featured on many e-cargo.

Their dedication to making a cyclists bike did lead them to leave out essential accessories like lights and fenders - relatively simply remedied if needed, and to be sure they plowed all the savings into adding higher quality parts throughout the bike, but still a potential annoyance.

Lastly, not a huge fan of the microshift drivetrain on the current Skid Loader, which is serviceable for sure but unspectacular compared with the CUES drivetrains the newer Big Easy are getting.

These bikes activate my bike lust. I think high speed variants would be a nice option too.
