Hi all,
What a delight to see such a forum! Thanks for taking the initiative, @Bike Shop Girl ! My name is Cat Strain and I live in Islamorada, FL, but I frequent Brooklyn to assist with operating our East Coast shop, Propel Bikes.
As a family (husband and two boys (born in 2018 and 2013), we own a few different bikes, including a Tern HSD S11 (husband) and Tern Vektron (son). However, my primary ride is a Riese & Muller Load 60 Rohloff HS. In full transparency, I initially looked at the Load (and frontloaders, in general) and thought that it was a little bit odd-looking and never something I would ride. The universe is quite funny though as my brother, Chris Nolte, Propel's owner, cargo bike advocate, and industry leader, convinced me to get one. After much back and forth, I trusted him and went for it. That was many years ago and I'm so glad I did! Within a week, I forgot about it looking odd and suddenly, it was the coolest and most practical product I've ever owned! It didn't take long for me to become convinced that cargo bikes are the future of transportation and that I want to be more involved in the mission to get more people on bikes.
You may or may not know that I've worked behind the scenes (remote) at Propel since 2011. At the start of 2023, Chris was approached by his now-business partner, Justin Kosmides, to help ensure the availability and support of more quality products, in the North American market. Hence, Bloom, (In their own words: "Bloom is a technology company operating globally. We deliver services to customers across hardware, third-party logistics, contract manufacturing, and after-sales service.") was born. In October of 2023, to support the greater mission of getting more people on bikes and growing the industry, with Chris's support, I agreed to take on the role of CEO of Propel Bikes.
On any given day, aside from supporting our incredible team and being a "Mom" to two precious children, you can find me forming and nurturing relationships with industry experts, to continue providing the most innovative, future-forward, safe, and highest-quality products available on the market today; whether available in the North American market or more advanced global markets, I am committed to making the world's most premium products easily accessible to the North American market. If you come across a product you'd like to see, shoot me a message or send me an email.
For all of your cargo-bike-related needs, if Propel can be of assistance, we'd love to. Whether you're located in NYC or far away, we're delighted to share our knowledge and expertise with all those who care to have it!
