Hi, I’m Matt. I have been bike commuting for 20 years, and when I started a family I wanted to continue that lifestyle. At first, we got a Burley trailer and started taking trips on it when my first kids turned one. A few years later, I converted a KHS single speed into an ebike. When the motor broke, I upgraded to a Raleigh Redux iE with a Brose motor. During the pandemic, I did a 5 mile round trip to preschool twice a day with the Redux and the trailer. After a year of that, we got a Tern GSD for more space. Now, our kids are 8 and 11 years old and we still love the family eBike life. For local trips, the kids really prefer travelling by bike. We are fortunate that Oakland has a lot of bike infrastructure, even if it does have some serious gaps.
