The Aventon Abound is one of the few direct-to-consumer cargo bikes we feel comfortable talking about, thanks to the UL-2849 testing, and there are 1000s of Aventon bike shops across the United States.
The Abound is an electric midtail cargo bike that uses a hub drive motor, so the rear hub is where your power is. This is a unique sensation as it feels like the bike is pushing you a bit from the back. The major con to a hub drive system is that if you genuinely get into riding cargo bikes, the hub style can wear out much faster than a mid-drive motor. If you want to test out the cargo bike water or are on a tighter budget, this is a great place to start as long as you can keep your rear rack carrying under 143 lbs and don’t mind the goofy geometry.

Love my Abound. Setup correctly it like having an SUV but a bike. Joined an online group on Facebook and there are many great recommendations for accessories and how to set one up to get the most out of it.

Got the Abound almost 4 months ago and have put over 750 miles on it. I’m a heavy rider (255lbs) and ride with two kids (70 and 45 lbs). Max weight is 440 lbs, which with the 81 lbs bike puts us technically over the limit. Bike handles or great though, 750W motor is strong and torque sensor makes riding quite natural. I did replace the rear tire for 2.5-16 MMG moped tire which gives much better grip and weight capacity. Getting about 25-30 miles of range with “Tour” setting (2nd pedal assist level). Included accessories and extra battery make this great value.
