Has anybody owned or test-ridden either of the Trek Fetch cargo bikes? What did you think?

I have 8,000 miles on my Fetch 2. I love it!
I ordered it sight unseen after some car problems. I had planned on getting the Fetch 4 but my LBS talked me down to the Fetch 2.
I have nothing to compare it to as never ridden a cargo, nor long tail nor electric bike before getting my Fetch.
I ordered it with the front and rear panniers and can get quite a bit of groceries in there. (I still have to do two trips because my adult sons…)
I recently read some reviews and the only thing I can agree with it the paint chipping way too easily.

Nice pic, I like those rigid panniers actually. Not the nicest looking, but very practical. Transfers some of the benefits of a bucket bike to a long-tail style

But wow-ee, more than 40% off right now on Trek's site. Wonder if they overstocked. Or have new model update coming.

I test rode both since they’re the only cargo bikes available locally. The Fetch+2 was a nice ride, similar to the Specialized Globe Haul. The Fetch+4 was a beast - and I’m usually fan of huge cargo bikes - but it felt a lot heavier and more cumbersome than an Urban Arrow Family.

Both Treks have derailleurs, which can be problematic here with the amount of sand we have (same issue with most Tern bikes) and how low the chains run near the ground.

The riding position is typically Trek “hybrid” style. I find that uncomfortable, but it is so common on US bikes that I don’t think most folks would notice.

Overall they were fantastic as Trek’s fist entries in the cargo bike realm. But the price tags were jaw-dropping. They were too expensive to be eligible for the local ebike subsidy scheme.
